IIPS Annual Essay Competition - 2011

The Institute of Intellectual Property Studies (IIPS) is conducting a national IP essay competition on “The role of Legislature, the Governemnt, Judiciary and Private Enterprises in Protecting IPR in in India
”.

In the context of the roles of any of the specific bodies mentioned above, you may choose any one of the following topics:
A) Compulsory licensing of Copyrights: Public interest and entertainment industry
B) Is open source policy a competitive alternative to monopoly rights or can the two coexist?
C) Challenges of overlapping IPR protection- Blurred boundaries defeat the distinctiveness of developed IP laws
D) Creating value and employability out of the business of inventing- the economics of IPR protection
E) Protecting traditional arts, handicrafts and community IPRs - India’s approach on Geographical Indications protection

Submission details:
Number of words: Maximum of 5000 words (excluding bibliography, abstract and footnotes).
Last date of submission: 10th July, 2011

Prizes:
• 1st Prize:  Rs.10000/-
• 2nd Prize: Rs. 5000/-
• 3rd Prize:  Rs.2500/-

The winning essays will also be published in IPost, the IIPS Annual IP Journal.

1st Intnl Conference on Management of IPR & Strategy - MIPS 2012

An International conference to provide the right platform to discuss the multifarious areas relating to Intellectual Property Rights and its management through the processes of debates, discussions and presentations is being conducted by Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay along with the support of the Ministry of Human Resources Development IPR Chair Project, Government of India at IIT Bombay, India.

Dates for the Conference are 2nd-5th February, 2012.

The theme of this conference is “IP for Development- The Emerging Paradigm”.

The theme revolves around the following ideas; however, it is not restricted to these.
• Economics of Commons- managing technology, knowledge transfer, standardization and pooling through IPR
• Strategic management of IPR- Informatics and analysis
• The IP management which is missing in the industry
• Myths and realities of IP branding, valuing and quality
• Navigating the Digital world with IP as the compass
• Role of Public Institutions in integrating equity of IP
• Rationales and Paradigms in the role of IPR
• Public-Private dichotomy under TRIPS Flexibility and Maximum standards.
• Innovations- Does IP close the opening of the collaborative innovation models?

Call for Papers:
All submissions are to be made online. An extended abstract, limited to 750 words including keywords, ought to be uploaded for submission and review process by July 08, 2011.
Full papers are to be submitted by October 1, 2011.
Submissions which are selected and reviewed would be accommodated in Researchers / Practitioners/ Case Study stream.
