2nd R.K.Jain Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2011 (VLS, Delhi)

Vivekananda Law School is organizing their 2nd R.K.Jain Memorial National Moot Court Competition on the 26th & 27th March 2011 at New Delhi.

The Moot problem, which is based on CONSTITUTIONAL LAW can be accessed at their blog here.

Last date of Registration with the college is 2nd March, 2011.

NLU - Delhi Debate Competition

Hi RGSOIPLians,

National Law University, Delhi is organizing First Prof. Ghanshyam Singh Memorial Parliamentary Debate, from 24th to 27th March, 2011.

The debate will be organised according to the Asians 3-on-3 format.
Each team is required to be accompanied by at least one adjudicator.
As of now, we have a tentative team cap of 50 teams with two teams allowed per institution.

Last date of registration for the competition is 28th February, 2011, hence interested students are requested to send in their names to Prashant as soon as possible.
(Please note that its a competition open to all law and non-law schools.So even if you are not able to come up with a 'team', we would be putting you across the IIT Kgp Debate Club which would not only help you get your team, but also practice and prepare for the event.)

Model WTO Conference


Hi RGSOIPLians, 


The Economics Department of Hindu College proudly presents its very own Model World Trade Organization (WTO) Conference to be held on the 10th and the 11th of March, 2011 in Hindu College. The event will be a simulation of the World Trade Organization with participants representing various countries of the world.

The World Trade Organization is the only global international organization dealing with rules of trade between nations. The WTO agreements, which have to be signed by a large number of the world's trading nations and ratified by their parliament, are the instruments through which the organization ensures that trade flows freely, and producers, exporters and importers can conduct business easily.

The agenda to be discussed is “Agricultural Subsidies and their Distortion of Free Trade”.

A registration fee of Rs. 200 would be charged from all delegates.

The application form and the country matrix are provided in the attachments can be obtained by mailing Prashant or Honey. Applicants have to give three country choices in order of preference. Interested students should submit their applications by 20th February to be included in the first round of country allotments. For the second round of country allotments, applicants should send their applications by 25th February. The applications have to be mailed to wto.hindu@gmail.com

Prizes worth Rs.15000 would be given to the winners !!!

1st SLR-Sage Essay Competition

Socio-Legal Review (SLR), the inter-disciplinary, peer-reviewed and student edited journal published by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and Sage Publications, the independent international publisher of books, journal and international media have announced the 1st Annual SLR – Sage Essay Competition.


TOPICS
Participants have to write the essay on any one of the following:

1.  John Milbank argues that, "Liberal principles will always ensure that the rights of the individual override those of the group.” For this reason, he concludes, “liberalism cannot defend corporate religious freedom.” Discuss the 2010 Babri Masjid verdict in light of this statement.

2.  The Bhopal Gas Tragedy: On Whether and How the Indian Companies Act, 1956 can be used to make a case for imposing social responsibility on corporations?

3.  Are Whistleblowers the New Age Journalists? Critique in Light of WikiLeaks.
